How the split is worked out
Enter the bill, the number of people and any extra charges. Service charge and tip are both calculated on the food subtotal and added on top; the default 10% matches the 服務費 most sit-down restaurants in Taiwan add automatically. In even mode everyone pays the same share, rounded up to a whole dollar so the bill is fully covered, and the few dollars left over are listed separately so you can leave them as a tip or hand them to whoever paid. In by-item mode, add each dish with its price and tick the people who shared it. Each person pays for their own items, a shared dish is divided equally among everyone who ticked it, and the service charge and tip are spread in proportion to what each person ordered, so someone who only had a drink is never charged for another person's steak.
Splitting bills in Taiwan
- Whole-dollar rounding in by-item mode uses the largest-remainder method: the per-person amounts always add up exactly to the bill, and the odd dollars go to the people whose exact share was closest to rounding up.
- Taiwan's 10% service charge is a fixed add-on, not a tip, and tipping on top is not customary. Leave the tip at 0 unless you want to add one.
- Drinks, desserts or appetisers that only some people had are easiest handled in by-item mode; if everything was shared, even mode is all you need.
- Settle up through a bank app, LINE Pay or JKOPAY. Same-bank transfers are usually free, and most banks include a few free interbank transfers each month.
