Residential progressive rates in force since 2025-10-01 (unchanged by the 2026 price reviews); prices include 5% VAT. Figures follow published rates and rules, which change over time. Confirm with the official source before relying on them. Rates last verified: 2026-11-05
How progressive tiers work
Taipower bills households on a progressive scale: the first 120 kWh in a month cost NT$1.78 each, the next 210 kWh cost more, and so on through six tiers, so only the kWh that fall inside a tier are charged at that tier's price — a 350 kWh month is not billed entirely at the third-tier rate. Summer rates (1 June to 30 September) are higher from the second tier upward, NT$2.55 instead of NT$2.26 for 121–330 kWh and NT$8.86 instead of NT$7.03 above 1000 kWh, because air-conditioning pushes demand to its yearly peak and the extra supply is the most expensive to generate. Most homes are metered every two months, and the bill simply doubles every tier boundary (240, 660, 1000, 1400 and 2000 kWh), which is exactly what the two-month option does. The prices shown took effect on 1 October 2025 and were kept unchanged by the March and September 2026 electricity price reviews.
What the estimate leaves out
- Per-kWh prices already include 5% VAT. A real bill may also carry a shared public-electricity charge (公共電費) for the building and a power-saving reward credit.
- Time-of-use tariffs (時間電價), business meters (營業用), and bills that straddle 1 June or 1 October — Taipower prorates those by days — are not modelled.
- 1 度 = 1 kWh. Read the figure from the 用電度數 line on your bill or from the meter.
